How to get a business on Google (local SEO for Indian SMEs)

How Indian SMEs appear on Google Search and Maps: Google Business Profile, NAP, reviews, and a website that matches the listing—with a Bangalore example.

What “being on Google” actually means

For a shop, clinic, spa, academy, or local service in India, customers search on Google and Maps: “pet grooming near me,” “mahjong classes Bangalore,” “mini theatre Koramangala.” You appear when three things exist together: a verified Google Business Profile, consistent name–address–phone across the web, and a website that matches that listing.

Instagram is not a Google listing. A WhatsApp number is not a Google listing. Paid ads can put you on top for a day; local SEO is what still works when the ad budget stops.

HackifyTech builds the website side of this. A live example is Zeenu’s Pet Spa on Richmond Road, Ashok Nagar—services, prices, FAQs, and WhatsApp booking on a fast site, written so Google can understand the area.

Step 1: Claim and verify Google Business Profile

Go to business.google.com and sign in. Search your exact trading name. If a listing already exists, claim it. If not, add the business. Use the name on your board and GST papers—not “Best Pet Spa Bangalore Cheap Grooming.” Keyword-stuffed names get suspended.

Google will ask you to verify. In India that is often a video from a phone (show the signboard, the door, the inside, in one unedited take), sometimes a postcard, call, or email. Use the method Google shows you. Unverified profiles are weak and easy to lose.

Pick the most specific primary category (for example “Pet groomer,” not “Store”). Add real services, hours, a local phone number, and your website URL. Service-area businesses (plumbers, consultants) can hide a home address and set service areas instead of a public pin.

Step 2: Make name, address, and phone identical everywhere

Google matches businesses by NAP: name, address, phone. If the profile says “Zeenu’s Pet Spa,” the website, Justdial, Instagram bio, and visiting card should not each invent a different spelling or “Road” vs “Rd.”

Use one format and copy it. Include PIN code. Use a reachable mobile or landline, not a number that never rings. Put the same NAP in the website footer and contact page.

Directories still help as citations if they stay consistent. They hurt if they drift. Audit the obvious ones: your site, Google, Facebook, Instagram, Justdial, Sulekha, IndiaMART where relevant.

Step 3: Put the same facts on a real website

A Google profile without a website can still show. A website makes you look established, answers price and process questions, and gives Google pages to rank beyond the map pack—service pages, a city page, FAQs.

Your site should name the locality the way people search: Ashok Nagar, Richmond Road, Koramangala, not only “Bangalore.” List services and typical price bands. Show hours, a map embed or directions, and a WhatsApp or call button above the fold on mobile.

This is what we built for Zeenu’s Pet Spa: grooming services, transparent ranges, gallery, reviews, FAQs, and book-ahead messaging. Fia’s Mahjong (fiasmahjong.com) and CineCelebrate do the same for academy and venue searches in Bengaluru.

Static marketing pages at HackifyTech start at ₹4,000 a page. Dynamic pages (forms, listings) are ₹8,000. A starter 3-page site starts from ₹12,000. Domain, hosting, and GST are extra unless the quote says otherwise.

Step 4: Reviews, photos, and posts

Ask happy customers for a Google review. Reply to every review, including the bad ones, in a calm professional tone. Do not buy reviews. Fake reviews can suspend the profile.

Upload clear photos: storefront with the matching name, interior, work in progress, team if appropriate. Refresh them. Empty profiles look abandoned.

Use Google posts for offers, hours changes, and festivals. They expire; that is fine. Activity tells Google the business is alive.

Step 5: Search Console and a clean technical baseline

Once the site is live on https, add it to Google Search Console and submit the sitemap. That does not “rank you tomorrow.” It shows indexing errors and which queries already bring impressions.

The site must be mobile-first, fast enough, and unique on each important page (title and meta description). Duplicate titles across Home and Services waste the listing.

HackifyTech includes on-page titles, headings, and a sitemap-oriented structure on website work. We can guide Search Console setup; we do not run your Google ads unless that is scoped separately.

What not to do

Do not stuff the business name with cities and keywords. Do not create duplicate profiles for the same shop. Do not hide a closed location. Do not expect a freelancer to “guarantee first rank on Maps.” Distance, relevance, and prominence still decide the map pack.

Remote-first companies like HackifyTech should not fake a walk-in office they do not have. We serve Bangalore and other cities remotely. Local SMEs with a real address should verify that address honestly.

A practical order for this month

Week 1: claim and verify Google Business Profile; lock NAP. Week 2: launch or fix a 3-page site (Home, Services, Contact) with the same NAP, WhatsApp, and locality names. Week 3: photos, first review requests, Search Console. Week 4: one service page per main offer if you have the budget.

If you want the website built to this standard, WhatsApp +91 82177 16658 with your city, category, and whether you already have a Google listing. Ask for a prototype demo if you want to see the pages before you pay the build advance.
