Service pages vs one homepage: what Google actually ranks

Why Indian businesses need more than a single homepage: Google ranks specific URLs for specific searches. How to structure services, cities, and FAQs without stuffing keywords.

The short answer

Google ranks URLs, not “your brand as a whole.” A query like “dog grooming Ashok Nagar” or “table booking Mahjong Bangalore” is far more likely to match a dedicated services or location page than a homepage that tries to say everything.

One homepage is a brochure. It can rank for your brand name. It rarely wins the useful searches that bring new customers. That is why HackifyTech prices websites per page (₹4,000 static, ₹8,000 dynamic) instead of selling a single long scroll and calling it SEO.

What Google is matching

Search is a question. The result is a page whose title, headings, and first paragraphs answer that question. If your only page is “Welcome to our company,” Google has nothing specific to show for “website with enquiry form” or “pet spa Richmond Road.”

The homepage still matters. It is the hub: who you are, proof, and links into services, pricing, and contact. Inner pages do the ranking work for each offer.

Local SEO makes this sharper. Your Google Business Profile and website should agree. The profile is one listing; the site can have a Services page, an About page, and FAQs that expand what the listing cannot fit. See our guide on getting an Indian SME on Google.

What a strong service page contains

One clear H1 that names the service (and the city if that is how people search). A short explanation of who it is for. Price band or “from” rate if you can stand behind it. Proof (photos, reviews, a live product). FAQs. One next step: WhatsApp, call, or book.

Zeenu’s Pet Spa does this: separate services and pricing, not only a hero image. Fia's lists classes, shop, and booking as real routes. CineCelebrate has packages and a book flow—not a single homepage paragraph about “celebrations.”

Do not clone the same text on ten city pages with only the city name swapped. Google treats that as thin. Write pages you would show a customer in person.

When one page is enough

A single landing page is enough for a paid ad with one offer, or a freelancer who only needs a name, three lines, and WhatsApp. That is a campaign page (we price high-conversion landings at ₹12,000), not a local business SEO site.

If you have two unrelated offers (grooming and a full ecommerce store), stuffing both on the homepage confuses users and search. Split them.

A simple structure that works in India

Start with Home, Services (or one page per main service), About, Contact. Add a city or area section only where you truly serve walk-ins. Add blog articles for questions people type (cost, process, how-to)—those support the service pages; they do not replace them.

Each important URL needs its own title and meta description. Duplicate titles across Home and Services waste the crawl. Link from Home to Services with normal language (“See grooming prices”), not a block of hidden keywords.

A starter 3-page site from ₹12,000 is this pattern: Home, About/Services, Contact. Growth sites mix static and dynamic pages when you add forms, listings, or booking.

What does not rank—even on twenty pages

Keyword-stuffed titles, fake locations, and doorway pages (one URL per spelling of the same service) get ignored or punished. More pages only help if each page has a job.

Speed and mobile layout still count. A slow WordPress homepage with twenty popups will lose to three fast Next.js pages that answer the query. Stack and page count work together; neither is magic.

What to do next

List the five searches you actually want to win. If two of them are not your brand name, you need more than a homepage. Map each search to one URL. WhatsApp +91 82177 16658 with that list and your city. We will itemise static vs dynamic pages and can prototype the key screens before you pay the build advance.
